Well, as some of you might know, I have 2 albino male hedgehogs. They are both doing super and I am trading one of them for a salt and pepper female tommorow. Both are eating well, and are active on there wheel. The only problem is that one of them has flaky skin, I have been bathing him and it seems to be going away.
The ladie didn't have an extra cage for the 2 males housed together so I had to take both if I wanted one, so it's not sad for the hedgie, all it means is the person who gets him will have more time for him b/c he will be by himself, and hedgies are solitray.
Oreo has flaky skin too. It's mostly cuz he's quilling. I give him a bath with a little canola oil in it. On another forum they suggested warm baths with aveno oatmeal shampoo, or a mesh baggie with a little dry oatmeal in it. I haven't tried it yet, when i do i'll let you know.

Yes, over the winter months when the air is dryer in our homes it helps to keep weekly doing something to help fight dry skin. This could be by placing a drop of Vitamin E on the skin. One drop on the hip area and one on the shoulder area of your hedgehog. I get the capsules with Vitamin E in the human section of the drug store and poke a hole with a pin in it. Also good to do is a drop or two of canola oil, or olive oil on the back in the same areas weekly. Also after the shampoo part of your hedgies bath, give one regular rinse and then another one with the olive oil or canola in this rinse. Then wrap your hedgie for some qualitie time in a towel until nice and dry. It's sort of like a spa treatment for your hoggies skin. I also run a vaporiser over the winter in my home to help with dry skin. Lois
