| I think Orbit is dying! I think my hedgehog, Orbit, is dying. He is old, so it is just old age setting in. When he went to the vets, she said he isn't in pain, just old, and there is nothing wrong with him.
He wants to sleep all the time, and isn't eating much. This is really hard, because my female died recently as well. She just went to sleep and never woke up . It is good that he isn't in pain, but it is hard seeing him being so slow and tired all the time

| Sorry to hear about Orbit. I hope, for both your sakes, that if it is his time that it is quick easy and painless. |

| I am sorry to hear about Orbit also, but those darn hedgies just don'e live long enough Have you tried wetting his food?...when Pepper was old he had trouble with the dry kibble, but lived for a year longer by giving him wet food.
I too hope when it is his time he goes quickly and peacefully in his sleep. Our vet does euthanasia on hedgehogs for only $5 so they do not have to suffer. If he seems like he starts to suffer you could consider helping him cross the bridge.
Our Nutmeg is not doing well either, she has tumors on her front leg, but she still seems happy and eating and wheeling so the vet said just to keep the euthanasia in mind in case she starts to suffer.
I will be thinking about you and Orbit

I will try to wet his food down and see if it helps. If he seems in pain, I will have him euthanized, but he really doesn't seem to be suffering, just really tired, he only wants out for short times, and then he tires quickly.

| I'm sorry to hear this Laurie. What is the lifespan of a hedgehog and how old is Orbit?

| I believe the lifespan is only 4-5 years, that is what the majority of people have told me. Orbit is only 4 1/2 years. When we lost Pikachu, she was over 5 years, and I have heard some say that they can live up to 7 years or so . Still not long enough for me, since my degu passed away at 9 years, and they are much smaller.

| Question for you Annie - do you just use water to wet the food down, or a broth?

| Laurie, I am sorry to hear about Orbit. I didn't realize hedgies have such a short lifespan. He is certainly in good hands with you. |
