Getting a hedgehog

So me and my bf have decided we might be getting a hedgehog, a friend bought a hedgie from the petstore and then a few days after found out she was pregnant, she has two babies, one cinnacot and one grey. We have yet to meet them as we haven't had time to go see them, but I was wondering if they make pretty good pets. I have read alot about them, but would like to hear some personal experiences before we actually go out and get the one from my friend. I don't want to bring it home and then decide its not the right pet for me, so any experience info on them would be great.

oh, darling, hedgies are wonderful enchanting pets. but, please, of course, research even more. may i suggest you check out the pog chit chat yahoo group if you want fun real stories of hedgie ownership.

some are grumpy and forever stay that way, some bcome friendly and downright lovey and stay that way-however, since oyu will be getting a youngling, let me warn you. they do go through a teenager stage where they are hormonal and grumpy in turns-and they will quill-lose a good all of thier quills over a period of time-and quilling is very uncomfortable for them. even my grumpy hedgies were still amazing lovable creatures. ask specific questions, i am more than happy to help you.

of course, if you decide you don't want them, send 'em to me! lolol)

I don't think I would ever have one as a pet. My friend had one, and it was a nasty hissy jumpy thing.

We've had four. The first was a grumpy hissing popping butt, but I loved to watch him in his cage and thought he was very interesting. Then we got Pepper who was only grumpy to strangers. We got him at 8 weeks old, so would unball for us, but no one else. Then we got Nutmeg who was a total sweetie pie. Never raised her quills, never hissed popped or jumped. She was much more fun to hold and snuggle with. Coconut was sort of both, grumpy with everyone except my son. She did unroll and not raise her quills when he held her. There are so many good threads at Chins and Quills and Hedgehogcentral.com I would definitely research to see if they might be a pet for you. If you have any specific questions after doing a bit of research I would be happy to answer them also.

Thanks everyone, we are going to go meet them on Friday, see which one likes me best and we will go from there. I know it will take patience to hand train him/her, but I think I'm up for the challenge, I managed to train my female hamster and she's a total brat most of the time. Like I said we will see.

No I never got the hedgehog, we decided yes to getting it, tried calling the girl back millions of times, tried emailing her, and never heard from her again. Rather annoying but oh well, probably for the best, I guess.
