Female dominance ...

I just witness my female hedgehogs trying to dominate one another ... quite the interesting sight ... lasted a few seconds before I had to intervene. Tiku ... Lisilwen's daughter ... was trying to mount Lisilwen the same way males do, plus she let out a few squeeks quite similar to the males mating calls. Lisilwen wasn't much pleased ... ran right into Nyan Nyan ... and Nyan Nyan lashed out and bit her This was when I intervened with my handy squirt gun ... usually I have the girls staying together without issues ... the occasional hiss ... but no bites ... I guess today was the last stray for them. I had all three in a newly clean cage ... with no items in it at the time ... I'm kinda curious as to what initiated it. Nyan Nyan and Tiku were fine together once I took Lisilwen out ... there actually snuggling together as I'm typing ... I'm wondering if maybe Lisilwen is letting off a "I'm ready to mate" scent which ticked Nyan Nyan and Tiku off ...

What a weird thing to have happen!! I had been warned to keep all hogs separated regardless of sex, maybe that's why?
So are you going to reunite all 3 eventually?

I have Nyan Nyan and Tiku staying in the same cage ... no worries about the two of them. I let all three have a free run today together ... and Lisilwen seemed a little upset with the others ... she's such a chubby cutie ... so it might take a little while longer before they can get along together again ...

At one point we had the three girls plus two baby females staying in the same cage without as much as a hiss from one of them .... usually whenever they surprised one another ...
