Cut Ear

Haley seems to have cut the area at the base of her ear. I am wondering what to put on it- peroxide? polysporin? a veterinary salve?

por haley!

are you sure it s a ut and not ear drainage?

if it is a cut, clean it with peroxide and q-tip, inspect the site to be sure it is not so extensive that you need vet care, and if you do not-then use a good quality antiepic/antibio cream on a q-tip. polysporin is common. or if you have a good cream fom your vet, that is fine.

as always, watch for edess, swelling, drinage, or any other sign of infection.

check her cage for wht might have caused the cut-run your hands over everything and look for blood. remove or fix whatever caused the cut.

if it is eardrainge, get her to a vet....it could be mites, fungus, or infection.

hope it heals well, and let us know how the love is!

Thanks weesiepoo. What colour is their ear drainage? It looks very pink to me, right at the base of the ear. She likes to scratch sometimes (she has been treated for mites), so I think that is what happened.
I will put peroxide on it when I get home.
I am positive that it's not her surroundings that caused it. Her swimming pool is very safe.
She seems happy & was begging to come out last night, so I would guess it's minor, but I will keep an eye on it.

usually, an infection is a yellowsh/ orange and smells rotten. unfotunately, that is often what mite discarge is like.....maybe a litte darker and more of a "dirty" smell.take a q-tip to slightly inside and see if it looks dirty. typical mitey-lol!
