Trimming Nails

Well I've had Spike/Nutmeg a few days and noticed the day I got him his nails needed a trimming and now that he is settled and trusts me I'd like to give him a manicure. I've never had to trim nails before and I'm wondering if those with guinea pigs could offer a little advice.
Thanks

I hold my piggies on my knee, facing away from me. My pigs are old though, so they can't be bothered to try and move, if your piggies are nervous, you can towel them so they can't squirm as much. I have some quick stop - styptic powder beside me while I do this, as I have a black piggy, so it is hard to see how far I can clip them. I do a bit at a time with her. If yours are comfortable in a laid back sitting position, it should be fairly easy.

The easiest way for a beginner- have someone else hold the piggy facing away from them and you trim. I actually taught my boys to lie on their backs in my lap- so is easy to trim nails, check pockets that way. As far as legnth- if they are black nails and you can't see the quick- just leave a little curve.
