Mom's piggy had two seizures

Hey everyone. My mom has a gpig that has been with us since I was 15 (I am now 24!). We originally had her parents also and they passed away at about 8 years of age. My mom told me that Icky (Licorice), had a seizure the other day and another one yesterday. She's fine afterwards though. Is there anything that my mom or a vet can do for Icky, or is this just signs of old age?

This is Icky. She's been totally healthy until now, like her parents were until right before they died. She is an indoor piggy but goes outside sometimes for exercise.

how long were the seizures? Your mom should probably take her piggy to the vet and see if anything can be done. Seizures can be caused by a great number of things ranging from nutrient deficiency (whether because of poor food or improper digestion) all the way up to brain malfunctions. Some types of seizures can be controlled with medication such as phenobarbitol and others are so infrequent and small that they don't require anything other than letting them pass.

I went through seizures with my first chinnie and it was no fun Good luck to your mom and her little piggy!

I think they are pretty short and she snaps out of them quickly and starts eating if my mom puts fruits or veggies in front of her. I doubt they are from nutrient deficiency because she gets everything gpigs are supposed to (and more ). I wonder if they are from brain malfunctions.

It could be from improper digestion too. Tumors and such can prevent their little bodies from absorbing what they need, resulting in lack of nutrients and seizures. I think a vet visit is definitely a good idea.

Aww, poor Icky. Noel (my chinnie) has a seizure about once a month and it lasts for about 15 seconds. I am sure the vet will want to run bloodwork and take a brain scan to see what is wrong with her.
