male gps??

Hi

I was just wondering,,can a young , as in weaned male gpig get along with an adult male gp..??
If not, no big deal, but I thought if an older and young male gp would be easily introduced.I would keep them together. I am separating the mom and baby as he is getting older now and she is not wanting him around her..

The majority of older males will accept a young male. You just need to keep them where you can observe them and make sure they are ok.

They should get along, I would put their cages side by side for awhile so they get used to eachothers scents. When and if they are living together, keep them well away from the females. Also make sure they have lots of hiding places.

They should do fine. Especially if one is younger, and the other older. When the younger boar hits about 6 months old they may squabble a bit, but thats only a dominance thing. Beings the one is so young, you may not have to put cages near each other. I'd just let them have playtime together..

I've introduced 2 differen pairs of males and always let them have playtime together, scrubbed the cage during that and plunked them in... With my females, I've gotten lucky and was able to just clean the cage and put them all together.

they would get along fine providing...the older one has not been mated. If that the case he may harm the little one as he gets older...

7 babies where have you heard that? It shouldn't matter if the older animal has mated before or not. In most cases when the younger animal becomes mature(at about 6-9 months of age) there is a dominance issue... Humping, chasing, ect can accure.. If he's mated before--I can't possibly see why he'd kill the younger pig.

You should have no problems mixing an older boar with a younger one. I have successfully paired off adult boars before, with absolutely no problems, as long as I knew their individual temperaments. Once the baby has matured, be sure to watch out for dominance issues. There is a small chance you'll have to seperate them in the future.

Boars sometimes fight if they can smell a sow in heat nearby, so it's best to keep girlies as far away as possible, just in case.

I had my first male alone until her was 8 months and then I introduced him to my new little guy. It has been best of buds ever since.

Just be sure to introduce them in the proper way.
Good Luck!

Never worked for me

You may have cause in what you say but, my experiences were different.
I have tried younge boars with older ones (if neither had known females) it works out fine...but, both times that I've tried with mated boars they have done nothing but try to copulate and dominate the younger one...in one instance all they did was fight...it took a separator and mittens to get them apart...and of course some first aid too.
of course if the older one is neutered then any sex can be put with him.
Like I said, my experiences....yours may be different but, mine are still fact as well.
Try finding out from an expert--perhaps Peter Gurney (rodentologist)
