| Fostering a Skinny Pig.. I am currently fostering a skinny pig named Pugsly. He's 6 months old. I was interested to know if anyone here has a skinny pig and what (if any) precautions you need to make with them. I know that they should be kept in a warmer temperature.. away from drafts etc. I also want to know what type of bedding I should use. He has occasional sneezing & I'm monitoring him.. He had been on pine shavings when he came to us.. I switched to Aspen... and may switch to Carefresh this week (when I get paid)..
I will try to get a picture of him soon.. he's adorable! (my batteries are being re-charged at the moment)

| Hi Sue,
I skinny pig sat for a few weeks last year. Keep them warm and if they have dry skin add some vit E. The ones I was looking after had hedgehog bags to live in during the winter and those pig loos igloos to sleep in. Hope this info helps Sue....I'm more of a fish, cat, and hedgehog person but I have animal watched my kinds of diff animals...Oh, make sure that you keep their back end clean as the poop gets stuck in the folds of the skin.

| I'm just fostering him to see if he's sneezing due to a URI or if he might be reacting to the shavings.. He doesn't appear to be ill really.. He probably won't be here very long..

| Look! It's the North American House Hippo!!!! I love skinny pigs - the way their ears wiggle when they run - so cute!

| Okay, he is cute! Dumb question for you....is this just a thin guinea pig you're talking about(doesn't look like it to me), or is there a type of animal called a skinny pig?

| skinny pig is an actual animal but it means they have no fur, just skin.
Sue, he's cute in his own little way

| Thanks Sophie. So other than the hair how is different from a gp? Are there different feeding/caring requirements?
