I found some pictures on Flickr that are tagged as being pictures of chinchillas, but I'm not sure whether they are in fact wild chinchillas:

That actually looks like a viscacha, a cousin of the chinchilla.

Thanks Sophie! That's exactly what they look like. They kind of look like a cross between a chinchilla and a rabbit/hare.
