question about cage building!

um ok......my mom might let me get a chin and I have to pay for a good majority of the the chin and his/her supplys.i figured it would knock about $150 off if I got my dad to build the cage for me (and me help). i know there are many many toxic woods for them. Does anyone know were I can find this wood and how much do you think it would cost.

~Thank you so much to all you who reply~

I've never built a cage so I don't know the price involved, but if you go in the chinchilla section & do a SEARCH for "melamine" you can see some cages made by other forum members. They are pretty nice!

Debbie is on a distinguished road
Yes search around and find what you like.
There are so many that build their own and do an awesome job.
You can find everything from a nice peice of funriture cage to el cheapo that is just as safe and fun for your chin.
I have a few on my site under cage creatons, but my cages are cages not nice peices of furniture.
I also recycle and resuse when ever possible.
Cage creations on this site;

There are video's of my room on this site, under "Things you can train a chinchilla to do",and loads of pics

I love it when they look more like entertainment centres.

we just got Shadow a new cage from Quality cage and she loves it. They had different sizes ..we got her the mansion. I did add some expense to it but purchasing some extra wood shelves to make some wider in the higher areas. We also got her the bins for her food and water and the hot spot shelf as well. Prior to that we had already purchased a wheel for her there that fits well in the new cage.
