It's actually illegal to own chinchillas in Windsor - that doesn't mean that no one does it, but it does mean that you can't find a breeder in the city. (Personally, I have no idea why you'd make owning a chinchila illegal - they're not violent, they don't really carry parasites, and they'd die if they escaped, so they're not going to become strays... but that's beside the point.) You can have up to 80 pigeons, though. I'm not joking.

The Essex Feed Store occasionally has chinchillas, so there must be a breeder somewhere in the county. Your best bet might be to contact them.

Also, last fall Sam's Pampered Pets in Emeryville had some chinchillas. I'm not sure if they still have them but again they might know of a breeder in the county.

It took me a long time to get all this info together, and now I'm not sure if I'll be able to get a chin any time soon - without central air our house gets pretty warm and I don't want them to overheat! - but I'm happy to help someone who thinks they're ready!
