A horrible scare!

Tonight I just about had the life scared out of me
As some of you know, Freddy has had a really sore foot again and I have been soaking it with a betadine and water solution as the vet wants me to do. Not an easy task with a chin but he is such a good boy and doesn't mind it too much. I usually just hold a cotton ball soaked in the solution on the sore part. It did get infected a few days ago and she had to poke it with a needle and express some of the puss.
Well, tonight I was soaking it and noticed that part of the little scab had come off. All of a sudden it startd gushing blood all over the place. Big drops of blood all down his tail and then filling up my hands...I was horrified!
I screamed for my son to grab me a wad of paper towel and started applying pressure...I am shaking now as I am typing...
Of course Freddy was trying to wiggle out of my hands but I grasped him firmly and held the wad tightly on the bottom of his foot. I then got my son to get the phone and call my vets office that is sometimes open late at night. I called but of course not open! I was so afraid I couldn't get the bleeding to stop.
I kept checking his foot and it was still gushing. I then realized that I wasn't going to get any help so I just kept holding it tightly. I got my son to look for my styptic powder and put a bit on the foot.
It finally slowed and stopped...ahhh..I could breath again.
I sat for a very long while holding Freddy to make sure he was alright and that it wasn't going to bleed again. I am keeping him warm and checking him constantly every few minutes to make sure he doesn't bother it but he seems fine now. He has even eaten a treat and is munching on some food. I don't think I will get much sleep tonight though. I plan on watching him closely all night and we will be calling the vet first thing in the morning.
My poor sweet boy...I hope he will be okay!

Try not to panic Pam. As you so wisely told me, those little feet can sure let out a lot of blood. It sounds like his foot finally cleansed itself, although quite horrifyingly by bleeding. Since he lost blood, you are prudent to keep him warm and reduce his activity level. I'll be sending lots of healing thoughts your way.

for Freddy, and Pam!

That is horrifying! At least you kept your head and managed to stop the bleeding ... I probably would have forgotten what to do...

Oh my !! Poor Freddy ... I'm so glad he didn't develop these sore feet when he was with me You seem to be handling it so well! There's no doubt he's in good hands

He seems to be fine now...thank goodness. He's eating and drinking and acting normal...phew!
It's always only the one foot that causes him the problem because of the big callous on it...poor guy! He seems oblivious to it though.

How scary!

Sounds like freddy needs a pumice stone to soften his tootsies

Freddy had a good night and didn't bother his foot. Mine on the otherhand wasn't so good with checking on him every hour or so.
He kept looking at me as if to say "what are you doing here all night"
He's eating and playing like normal. He does have quite a bit of dried blood from last night all over his tail and back legs and in his fur but he's not getting a bath for a good long while. The dust really seems to make his foot act up anyways.
Thank goodness he is okay!
I really don't need a scare like that again any time soon!
