You should take him/her to the vet for an exam. blood anywhere where it shouldn't be is pretty serious and no advice we can give can replace what your vet can diagnos at this point.

Thanks. I had that on my list to do. Just wanted to know if it is something I need to go to the emergency vet for... they are almost an hour away and it's past midnight here.
How much blood is there and how is your chinchilla acting? Is its abdomen distended at all? Is anything else out of the ordinary? Are you sure it's blood and not just something red that he or she ate? (the little buggers like to give us scares sometimes)

I forgot to add that you can probably call the emergency clinic and see if they think you need to bring your chin in. My instinct would be to drive over if you are sure it's blood.

Took Tako to the vet at about 9:30 this morning. His exam went well. He had some sort of cut on his chin. At first glance, it looked like that might have been where the blood came from. Maybe he licked himself.
I had blood work/x-rays done on him because of a previous heart mummur that was discovered. While he was under, the vet also looked internally to see if she could see if there was blood there. She did find some blood but could not locate where it was coming from.
As it stands right now, I am at work and Tako is at the vets being looked after. I will see him and find out the results later. I just hope it something that can be helped.
