Guilt

I was thinking about breeding Tucker with one of my females. Then I got to thinking and I got scared because a LONG time ago, Peeps mom died because of it and I stopped. I was breeding not for the purpose to sell, just to keep them all.
I was thinking maybe there should be some sort of rules or guidlines for breeding.
Like, backgrounds, age, quality.
What is everyone’s opinions on breeding to keep the babies?
Every single time I think of it I get really sad. Like it's my fault and I go through the "What if I got her checked", then Sandy would still be here. I don't think I could ever bring myself to breed again. I think about it, plan, but I know in my heart will never go threw it again. I love all my chins to death and I wouldn't have half of them if I didn't start breeding but that one time tore me apart. I would not have Peeps so she is the only good that came out of it. I still don't think I have forgiven myself for Sandy's death.
How do I forgive myself? Im not sure it’s forgiving myself but if I think about it my heart drops and I feel guilty.

I agree with Liz. I don't think breeding to keep all the babies is a good enough reason. I think you made a wise decision not breeding. It isn't a walk in the park that is for sure. I see way too many people breeding chinchillas these days. It is so overwhelming!

I agree with the above. If you want more chinnies, adopt. There are always ads everyday of people getting rid of chins they no longer want. Save one of them and save the risk to your girl

Well I really do think I made the right decision too. It is so tempting to breed them but there is so much risk involved. Im glad I did breed them when I first started out because I would not have Peeps and my other chins but you are all right, it's too risky. It is a lot of work as well. I will take your advice and "maybe" adopt another chin or adopt. I just don't know where I would quarantine the new one. That I will have to think about.
Thanks for your advice and you have helped me realize I was being a bit selfish.
