| Chin Training I am wondering what kind of things people may have trained ther chinchillas to do?
Cub knows that a single clap of the hands means stop whatever she is going, & she will come running from wherever she may be if I slap my knee repeatedly (she won't come for bf, heh heh ). She will also come if you call her name, but less quickly, & if you get down on your hands & knees & call her she will run over & nestle underneath your chest.
Does anyone else have any nice stories about chin training?

| Both of my girls know that if they wait for me at the corner of the cage in the morning, they will get a treat. they usually come running as soon s they see me peek out of the bedroom
Tinsel also knows that when I rattle her syringe between the cage bars it's medication time and she comes running.

| well actually I was thinking its more like my chins have me trained!!! lol Livvie will make noise with her water bottle for me to squeeze it for her so she can get a drink without having to do the work her self.. Mimi will pull on her cage door to have me open it then she will paw at my hand to have me open my palm so she can climb out onto it to hold her.. grace will sit upstairs in her house and wait for me to stick my hand up there to give her a treat. silly kids.. hehe |

| Chinchilla potty training My Chin was quiet easily trained to pee in the potty but continues to poo all over (especially when out of his cage...).
Any advice?
Thanks,
Avi. |

| Mine do the same.. I haven't found anything that will help with that.. I'm not sure it's possibe since they poop pretty much continuously..
I'm just happy they pee in their litterbox since it's quite easy to sweep up the poops.

| Mine are trained to get back in their cage when a timer goes off.
They know the sound of my nails tapping on the dust bath. Some even know the word bath, and will respnd by rolling on a shelf when I ask them if they want one.
They no the sound of the treat dish.
They all know their names quite well, and when followed by a loud NO will stop dead in their tracks. Albiet for a short time, and they still might go back to the bad deed, but they know what I'm saying.
Mine have quite the vocabulary, and I can tell them thier treat is up top, or in the house and they will go for it.
I have them paper trained for when they are out for play.
This is a funny one.
Had a male up in the laundry room one day, and he couldn't find a pee spot. The broom dust pan was on the floor so he peed in it.
I have some that are harness trained, and all I have to do is show them the harness and they will let me know if they want to get out and put it on, or if they are not in the mood. They'll ignor me.
I would have to say though, they sure do have me trained to do more things, than I have them trained to do.

| Harness for Chins? Dear Debbie,
My Tobi is free in a huge room in my house but I never considered taking him out.
Was wondering what kind of harness are you using & how safe is it to wander around (outside) with them.
Thanks & best,
Avi. |

| I get much flack about harnessing my chins, but keeps them safe in my arms.
They love to run around the deck and up and down the steps.
They just love the fresh air, and night time the best.
I take them to the feed shop now and then, or to friends and families.
I just use a small animal harness, with a strap around the neck and belly.
I go for the metal clips as they have chewed the plastic ones, when they've gotten at them on top of a cage or something, and then they won't clip.
They will never follow you like a dog, but rather I follow them, and just bring the leash taunt when I don't want them to go that way.
It's all up to you and your chin. I have never had a problem with the harness.
I have had a chin brake his leg while I was trying to groom him.
He took a spinning jump from my lap, and caught his leg on the end of a pan.
So what's dangerous to some is not to all.
I have a few large cages on wheels that I bring out side with chins in it too, just for the fresh out doors.
Practise practise practise , but if your chin just keeps protesting don't bother, some just hate it. |
