chin bite=no feeling in my finger

i wasn't sure where to post this since it dealt with my health and chins.
just 20 mins ago I was switching around 2 of my boys in their separate cages that I have started to introduce. well in doing so, Bandit saw Joey, went after him, I was not quick enough and put my hand in b/w them. bandit latched on so tight, and held on for about 30 secs (full force bite...probably thinking I was joey). anyway, darren separated them (they usually don't hurt hurt each other, just chase and little nips) as I squealed in pain.
anyway, my finger is still gushing blood and I can't feel the portion of my finger from the bite wound up (well, more like its very very numb). the wound is 1/2 way up my finger.
I have iced it and I can bend it etc but it just feels like he got a nerve or something (he did get pretty deep).
Just checking with the nurses here....the feeling in my finger will come back right???? Is there anything else I can do besides ice it?

Bandit feels bad about this....he has been snuggling with me. lesson to all....don't stick fingers near an upset chinnie mouth

A chinnie bite on the finger feels wonderful doesn't it? Amanda, out of the few chinnie bites I have received, they have ALL been on my fingers! And it hurts like a buggar! One of the bites that was really bad caused me to lose feeling in my finger and it did return. Sorry you got bit. Danny did that to me once when he thought I was another male.

Amanda, I would be really careful and go to see the doctor no matter what. You really don't want to be dealing with numbness the rest of your life!! Better to be safe than sorry.

Keep us updated, okay?

petart pam is an unknown quantity at this point
Also you really need to be careful it does't get infected. Those germy little chinnie teeth! I got nailed badly once on the finger right to the bone and it did get infected. I had to use a perscription antibiotic on it for a while.

Ouch! I hope you are feeling better! You should probably go to the doctor though and have it checked out. I cut myself on accident with a knife once and it sliced my fingertip and must have hit a nerve. That fingertip still feels weird and like I don't have as much feeling where it was cut. I was stupid and didn't have health insurance then or I would have gone to the ER. Ironically I got bit on the same spot today by a dwarf hamster! Weird. Anyway I hope everything is ok!

Thanks everyone.
Denise I am relieved to hear that the feeling came back in your finger so hopefully mine will too.
it still hurts this morning and I still have a slight numbness (feels almost like my finger fell asleep and soon it will "wake" up and I will have pins and needles...if that makes any sense).
The wound is looking ok....no pus, a little blood and it looks like a big bruise is forming. I am just glad to see my finger still has color, i can bend it and use it, it just feels weird. I am keeping a close eye on it and I work with a woman who used to be a nurse (she is so nice and always let us ask for medical advice) so I am going to have her look at it today.

I have been bitten before but not like this....Bandit really meant business this time. And I had to laugh this morning b/c my Cassie got a little worked up with Roo next door and in trying to spray him, he ducked and I got sprayed in the EYE!!!!! I think my chins are starting a revolt against me Just not a good 24 hours with them, but you can't help but love them anyway...even when you get pee in your eye

Ewww.. pee in the eye! That's gotta suck!
In regards to your finger.. be really careful to watch for infection. I've been bitten many times by cats.. they have filthy little mouths and the chance of infection is so high that I always demand antibiotics even if the Dr doesn't think I need any. I think chinchilla mouths might be cleaner but who knows..

I just talked to my coworker who used to be a nurse.....
She said Bandit probably just severed the superficial nerves and since its a clean wound (meaning straight), I should get feeling back in my finger (she said it might take up to 3 months). (Thank you bandit for not tearing it up ) She made sure my tetanus was up to date and just told me to make sure it doesn't swell and doesn't start to pus (meaning infection).
So it looks like I will live...thank goodness, I didn't want to miss my trip to Austria
