Yikes!! Stray cat and 6 kittins!!

Well, heading pretty much says it all!! This cat has been hanging around for the last few months or so. Never really thought about it much because we hardly ever saw her. Well, about 2 weeks ago, we heard a crying kitten in out backyard so we looked every where til we found it. the baby was stuck under some logs. So, we couldn't find any sign and a momma cat any where so I took the baby in and cleaned her up and started to bottle feed her. Well, a couple hours later I was taking baby to a friends house so she could take care of her because we are just toooooooo busy right now to take care of a 3 week-old kitten. Well, there sat momma cat on the front steps! I gave her back the baby and she ran under the porch. I looked every where I could think of to see if she had more babies any where, but I never found any.

So now 2 weeks later, I come home and there's momma ( hadn't seen her since I gave her the baby back ) sittin on the porch again, only this time she has 6 KITTENS with her!!! I had to count again just to make sure! YIKES!! We really aren't cat people. I don't mind cats as long as they are outside, but don't really care to have them in the house. I had tons of things running thru my head when I found them.....Do I take them to the shelter?? Do I just leave them alone?? Do I go buy kitten food and take care of them....Yadayadayada....

Well, we decided we needed to start taking care of them so that we could place them in good homes. Their poor eyes were sealed shut with boogies...so i called the vet and asked them what they recommended that I do to clean them up. So later the night ( when it cooled off! ) and sat outside with them and got all of them all nice and clean and put neosporin original on them ( vet told me to use that instead and teramyacin....sp???...) and played with them for a little bit. They are now starting to come around to people and momma actually will come up to us for pets and attention. We are going to keep momma as an outside cat and take her to the vet soon for a spay.

Hopefully soon we can start to find homes for the cute buggers!! We think they are about 5 weeks-old. I got them kitten food today so we'll see if we can get them to start eating on their own soon. As soon as the sun goes down, they will come out to play. Then I can get some pics to show everyone!! Sorry that was such a long post!!! lol I just love any kind of baby animals and have to gush once in awhile

Wow, congrats with your new cat and I hope the kittens find new homes. I'm sure they will though. I would take the kittens to the vet also as the buggers in their eyes can be from an upper respiratory infection.
I think they should have some baby teeth already or coming in so they would be able to eat some wet food.
Cant wait to see some pics Good luck with them.

I've had some experience with strays dumping litters on you. I could never bring myself to take them to the shelter- not when I knew they were already crowded. I rehomed them myself- starting with the mom. This was puppies, though- which are easier to give away than kittens- but since you have only 6 and we had 11- I bet you can do it! Good luck.

Most vets have a litter rate- or new kitten/puppy rate- usually waiving the visitation fee. You can always ask that people repay when they adopt. I had SOME pay- and some make excuses, though I never really pushed anyone on it.

well, no respitory infections ( went to doc this AM in case! ) they just have clogged tear ducts from dirt and debris. I just have to keep doing what I am doing for the next few days or so. There are only 2 of them that are still having a bit of closed eyes in the morning. The others are doing great! I gave them all some food, and so far it looks like they are trying to eat it....or just playing in it!! Pics!! Ack, I keep forgetting! With working two jobs and wedding stuff I'm just trying to keep from going crazy LOL I will try to get some on Wednesday, my next day off!!
