What do you feed your cat?

My cats are now fully switched over to Innova and I couldn't be more satisfied. Their coats are really shiny and soft and I really think that it is the food. They are fed Innova Lite dry and wet. The wet I mix with a little bit of extra water and half an acidophilus capsule to prevent UTI and IBS...both problems that my cats have.

Right now, my eldest cat is sick, and I'm feeding him whatever he'll eat. I have some Medical "Mature Formula" canned food that he seems to tolerate, and my partner and I are feeding him as many small meals throughout the day as he'll consume. We're still waiting for the results of the 2nd round of blood tests.

The other two cats are being a bit ignored at the moment, I'm afraid. They're gettings tastes of the Medical canned food, along with the staple Science Diet dry food. They're eating fine, looking fine, and pooping fine, which is all that concerns me for the moment.

In the past, I've fed Nutrience, Iams, and Eukanuba. I also tried some other brand which cost an arm and a leg, as it was holistic with no chemical preservatives. The cats enjoyed it for a while, but then the company sneakily changed the formula slightly and my cats (all three!) decided they didn't want to eat it anymore.

My pipe-dream is to produce "Mouse in a Can" brand cat food, where there will be little mice cooked and served in cans. It sounds sadistic for the mice, I know, but mice are the perfect diets for cats. It would be ideal to feed them what they evolved to eat, as opposed to corns and grains and other things I can't pronounce.

GC, what do they think is wrong with your kitty? I hope that he is going to be ok!

I had my cats on Medical for awhile and they HATED it! Could you maybe try another vet brand, like Walthams?

Thank you for your concern! We've ruled out renal failure, and all we know now is, his white blood cell count is dangerously low. My vet suspects:
- FIV (which wouldn't be horrible)
- an internal abscess (which would be preferable, needing only super strong antibiotics)
- FIP (which means he's in end-stage, which is bad bad bad)

I'm trying not to dwell on it too much, and just focusing on today's small problems.

The Medical food is the only one he'll eat out of countless other things I've tried. That, and Benny Bully's liver treats!

Hank is currently switching over to Precise wet & dry ( www.precisepet.com ). She ate it as a baby, then switched to Excel when I began working for a company that sold this great brand, then I moved & switched to Royal Canin, which then became unavailable, so the most recent thing she has been eating is Nutro Complete Care, which is pretty good too.
I like Precise because it is human grade, chicken meal is 1st ingredient, all the company makes is pet food, the grains are 90% whole & unrefined (with the exception of corn gluten meal, added for protein), no artificial anything, & it is super-palatable & comes in a wide variety of tasty flavours. (Hank's fave is "mixed grill"). The also have a new canned formula fortified with herbs!! Hank enjoyed that yesterday.

My cats have been on Science Diet since they were kittens...no problems and they LOVE IT!! I've been thinking about changing them over to FROMMS but haven't done so yet. I'm trying to get a sample pack to see if they like it first. Last time I checked they had samples for canines but were out of the feline ones. I'll check again tomorrow (My day off)

Mine are on Science Diet also. I have tried several times to switch them over to any other brand going slow and steady 1/4 by 1/4.

However Spanky will not tolerate any other food than Science Diet. If I try switching him over he starts puking all over the house. He is also my bag going bad indicator, I have had to bring several bags back to the store for a new bag because of him.
