| Meeko and the Tub Tonight, I was relaxing on the couch watching some TV when Mr.Meeko came so snuggle. He was walking all over my chest in circles as animals do, trying to find the optimal napping spot. Well, I don't know what he got all over me but it smelled. Obviously he can't spray and it didn't smell like pee but maybe his butt rubbed on my arm. I thought I was going to be sick.
So, I had a bath, then to be safe (because I couldn't seem to get the smell out of my head despite a good skin scrubbing in hot hot water, I decided to bathe him. Normally, I wouldn't give him a bath but this smell...ick.
Poor guy though. I don't think he'll be getting another bath for some time. I used luke warm, shallow water, and got him bathed in about 10 minutes. Would have been less if he'd not panicked. He did fairly well, only yowling a bit. He did scratch and bite me when I was rinsing him off.
I got a towel and dried him 85% myself, and now he's doing the rest. I feel bad about giving him the bath, and I thought about whether I should or not. But...honestly, that smell...I couldn't risk getting it on the bed or the couch or the chairs or whatever. Aweful stuff.

| Maybe he has blocked anal glands?
BB likes her baths very warm, not luke warm. Did you rinse him with running water or just a cup? If I run the water BB will freak, but she will stand and tolerate me dumping a small pitcher of water over her body as long as I don't dump it on her head.
Poor Meeko, but I bet he smells a whole lot better!

| Well, when I was washing him he had a dirty bum. So maybe that's what it was. Cause I checked him out on the butt to be sure and nothing looks blocked up. And he's always on me, near me, whatever, and this is the first smell like that. Hopefully the last time.
Oh he smells great now.
I used a cup. I didn't want to make the water too warm, that's why I went with luke warm. I know it wasn't too cold cause he wasn't shivering or anything at all. Poor guy.

| Sounds like you made it the best you could for him. He shouldn't hold a grudge for too long.

| Poor Meeko. My old cat Dot used to have a problem from time to time with blocked anal glands, and the smell was just noxious!
He'll have forgotten about it soon. |
