Heating Questions

I'm having a bit of a problem. We are going away for a week and a half on Thursday and the cats are staying home. This is the first time that they will stay home alone (they are usually boarded or stay with family). My parents, particularily my mom, will be over every day to keep them company and check on them for a couple hours a day.

My question is about the thermostat. It is programmed right now to be on for a short while in the morning and then turn on again before we get home from work. The cats are on a pretty normal schedule. They sleep with us, get up in the morning, play, and then are ready to go back to bed for the day once we leave for work. They wake up again when we get home and are awake until we go to bed.

I was thinking about turning the heat down to minimum while we are gone but I'm afraid the cats will be cold. Their schedule is going to be totally thrown off so the normal thermostat schedule isn't going to do anything either. Am I crazy? Has anyone else pondered this?

Candice, I dont think it would really bother the cats, I know m cats dont care when they get cold, actually my bedroom is the only room in the house without heat and thats where both cats sleep at night, the kids rooms has heat but they come in our room,,,,maybe they prefer a little coolness??

the coolness may bother the chinchillas though wouldnt it?

The vents in the chinchilla rooms are closed so they are generally colder than the rest of the house (around 68F).

Our cats do not like to be cold...especially Sydney. She sleeps on the heater vent when it's on.

I would probably leave the temp the same as you normally have it.
