| Feeding wet and dry? I'm just wondering what people's opinions are on feeding both wet and dry?
We used to have Willow on both. She had wet for breakfast, and wet for dinner and then we left out dry for her to eat whenever. This seemed to work well, she was a healthy weight (she was a little underweight when we got her), and she seemed happy with it. You could set your watch by when her breakfast and dinner time was, she never let us forget!
But when she came to Calgary and stayed with our friends, they had their cat on dry only. We had sent some of Willows wet food out ahead of time, but by the time she came home with us, she was on just dry. We're switching her to Precise, and she's stressed with the moves, so at the moment she's just on dry (we figured it was best not to mess with her feeding anymore than necessary).
Is this ok? Is it better for her to have wet food too? Or could we just supplement with the occasional treat? You can find info that supports both sides of the debate, so I'm just wondering what everyone here does. Thanks! |

| We have never fed our cats wet food for numerous reasons: one, coming from my aunt's experience with numerous cats over many years, they tended to make the cat have stinky farts; two, they got to be more finicky over their food and would start to not eat their dry food (also from my aunt's experience); and three, we can't afford the time and money it takes to find something that they'll like right now(as our cats are already finicky eaters.....)
I know Candice does something similar to what you used to do with Willow, so maybe she could offer you some advice. |

| My cats get 1/4 of a small can of wet food as a "treat" before bed. It makes them sleepy and allows me to get some shut-eye before my 4:00am wake up call courtesy of Max. I haven't noticed my cats farting any differently. They are not generally finicky and would go hungry if they relied on the amount of wet food that I give them. We also add a bit of water to their food to keep them hydrated and prevent UTIs. In the end, it's all a personal choice. I prefer to give wet because they like it and it serves a purpose...and so far, I haven't seen any negatives. |

| My guys get mostly dry but they each get 1/4 of a small tin of wet, as well, as a treat at night. Back in the days when I fed them 'supermarket' brands, they were very finicky and would go off certain flavours, but since they only get the Walthams brand of tinned (which is due to change as soon as Bruce's allergies are sorted), they're happy eating the same thing every night. It's a funny thing to watch - din-dins at my house - with four cats yowling in different pitches and doing the lovey-dovey rubbing faces thing with each other. Cute!
It's a debate amongst cat-owners. Some say a bit of wet is good for them (some vets say this as well) while others say the wet is not necessary. I've tried taking them off the wet altogether but they refuse to eat their dry then. I lasted three days and then caved. Once they got their bit of tinned at night again they started eating the dry as well. Cats are so stubborn!

| I think it's a personal choice as well... I used to feed dry only but started giving a small amount of wet food in the evening... Wilson looks forward to his 'treat' each night and Wiley ate it at first but now takes a few licks then walks away... so only one of my cats gets it now...
I've never heard my cats fart before & I have no sense of smell so... no problem!

| I feed dry only (except Donovan with his FLUTD) The main reason being for teeth maintenance - (and wet is more expensive). They get wet on birthdays and christmas |

| My cats only get dry because if I give them wet food, they will complain when I give them dry the next time. |

| My cats get wet food (1/4 can each) every morning about 7:00 and they get the rest of the can (the other 2/4s) at about 8:00 every night with dry food and fresh water every day.
