| Of course it's not normal for them to be THAT thin.. but I'm thinking there may be more going on with her besides not being fed. The ones that I've seen that thin had medical conditions..
I'm assuming that taking the cat to a Vet is not a top priority for these drug dealing neighbours..
The SPCA (that didn't want to deal with it) must have an Investigations dept.. Is that who you were talking to? It seems odd that they would send you away, especially when you know who the owners are.. these people shouldn't have pets if they can't take care of them!

| I agree she may have a health condition. In cats that old and thin hyperthyroid, diabetes and kidney failure (this one not likely since her appetite is good) are all suspect.
Poor baby

| My guess would be diabetes or kidney failure. Diabetic cats will drink A LOT and be starving all the time. She definitely needs a vet check. I hope that you can figure something out...but be careful! |

| I haven't seen the poor girl for 2 days. Candice, maybe it is diabetes, she did drink alot of water. I think the owners are keeping her in right now. I think it will just be temporary, but eventually when things die down, I am sure they will let her out again. If there is something seriously wrong with her, I know if I take her to the vet, I will not be able to let her go again. I can't keep her, since I assume, as with most cats, she would sit in the window and be seen by them, so I am thinking of taking her to the vet here, then sending her with the rescue organization upisland, who said they will come and get her. I don't want to send her to the SPCA, as they often euthanize if there health is not good , even if it is something that can be controlled.

| Well, the cat pretty much spent the last few weeks camped out in our yard, my daughter had set up a bed for her, and we fed and watered her on a regular basis. Last night, the owner came and got her, Doug was outside, and he spoke to her. She said, "tonight is probably Kitty's last night, we are taking her and getting her put down." Doug asked why, and she said it is because there is probably something wrong with her. It costs less for them to get her put down than to find out what is wrong. Then, Doug asked her to be honest, and he asked how old the cat really was, and she said, "honestly, she is 14." She said that is very old for a cat since they rarely live past 10. OMG, I am so mad. Anyways, she left with the cat, and Doug came in and told me, so we went down there to see if I could talk to them, but they were already gone . I haven't seen the cat all day, so I am assuming they took her in last night, since the clinics are open until 7 on Thursdays.
THEN, after that, I found out from a neighbour, that the pound gave the owners 3 weeks (he is coming back today) to take the cat to see a vet (it sounds like she had not been to the vet in years), and if they fail to comply, they would get a $500 fine. Now, when I had my elderly cat, her blood work, fecal sample and all of that, plus meds came to $800, so I am assuming that these people just went the cheapest route, getting the cat put down, which is about $80. I am watching for the pound to come back, I have a few things I want to say, so I hope I catch him.

| Oh My Word ???? how how how can anyone be so insensitive. Why have animals if you can't look after them. I have insurance so I know that My baby can have all the care she needs and she is 12 so insurance is not cheap, but its all down to responsibility. Does this person have children? would they think about putting one of them down if they had anything wrong with them? If you can't afford it and its just too much you could always swallow your pride and see if anyone could help or at least try. It really pains me when I hear this. My heart goes out for you trying so hard to look after this little animal and the owners just being so bloody minded and down right cruel.

| I'm so sorry People like that should never be allowed to have animals in their "care" At least the kitty knew that you and your family cared about her.

| As I was reading I was thinking of my friends cat, very old and very thin.
But that's gone beyond thin Laurie, OMG you wouldn't think it could live.
It would be curious to see if it does gain, or if it is naturally that thin because of age.
I'm sure you'll have to keep on eye on the poor little thing, do let us know what happens.
I bet it thinks it's died and gone to heaven and you are it's angel. |

| Debbie, I think the cat did die & go to the Bridge. I agree with Banshee.. she knew you cared about her so at least spent her last days knowing someone cared about her well-being.
That's a shame.

That's a shame. | I agree as well. Thanks, Laurie, for keeping an eye on the poor thing. I hope she's healed and playing on the bridge.
Let us know if you get a chance to speak to the SPCA people |
