Does your cat like catnip?

I thought all cats love catnip, but my mom's cat really doesn't like it! I even brought her a fresh plant, and she still turned her nose up at it! So I got to wondering, does your kitty like catnip? (and is your cat male or female, I have a theory I'm working on )

Actually, no, she doesn't. I thought I just had a really picky kitty, but she definitely turns her nose up at it. I've tried it a few times and there's only been once that she got a little spunky...and it lasted all of 30 seconds. I've had other cats who love it to death, though.

I have tried different types of the nip for picky cats and it seems to work pretty good. We have one that is hardly around and he is not a nip kitty but his brother is and its only one kind that we have to hunt down to find it. We used to have one cat that would steal all the catnip toys and hide them, too cute!

My cats like it a lot, but it depends on the variety and freshness.

Speaking of catnip, I was over at the pet store a few weeks back and saw this thing called a "Catnip Cigar" for sale. Although I didn't buy it, I would love to see what those who have tried it would have to say about it.

Anyone heard about this?

My cats, do

Not all of the cats I've had in the past liked catnip but the two I have right now love it. You mention a plant, though. I wasn't aware you could grow catnip! Is it an outdoor plant or a potted indoor plant? Are the plants available at a greenhouse or can you grow from seeds?

Actually, one more question...how do you keep your cat away from the plant? I would think my two would destroy it if they can get to it. One of them "plays" with my houseplants as it is.

I've grown my own catnip before because I thought she'd react more to it if it were fresh (did I mention how picky my cat is? lol). I just got a packet of seeds from my local farm type store. They had tons of different seeds and I happened to notice the catnip there, too. I just did a google search for it and you can buy packets online, too.

Thanks, Siamese

I'll search for the seeds as I think that would be great to grow my own. Catnip is rather pricey just to intoxicate the cat, you know? Where do you grow it - outside or in? And how do you keep the cats away from it while it's growing?

Just a word from the wise....grow catnip from seed under a cloche or in a fenced area, because if your cats are anything like mine, you'll never see the plant! They'll keep it nibbled down to just a tiny nub sticking out of the dirt. :-)

My cats can be very picky about the kind of Cat nip they will like. Then again, they are pretty picky in general sooo...lol

When they have some Catnip that they like though...they go absolutely crazy over it!

One trick is to spread the catnip over a scratching post, so that they have more of an incentive to using it.
