Does anyone buy beds for their cats?

For many years now, I have wanted to buy Cat Beds but there's been some concern on if my cats would use them or not.

Has anyone else here bought Cat Beds, and how well has your cat liked them?
Before I decide for certain on if i'll buy one or not, I would like to hear some second opinions.

We always had cat beds, because initially we had a cat that slept in the porch. It was because he would terrorise one of the other, smaller cats when we were in bed, and had injured it the once-but never did it when we were around.

So we had a bed that was padded, had a removable, sheep skin pad to sleep on that was washable, and was covered like a little tent. He was seriously snug inside it and we knew from the amount of hair in there that it got used each night! The porch didn't get that cold, but it was a little cooler than the house.

Otherwise, we let the cats choose their own beds. It would be an old item of clothes, or a blanket or so on.

I've tried a few different beds with my kitty and she just doesn't like them. She prefers to sleep in her own sought out spots....on top of a dresser, the end of the couch or bed, a basket of clean laundry, the book I'm reading....

The only way I've gotten her to sleep on them was to put a piece of clothing/towel on part of it that she really likes. When we take her to the kennel, we put her towel in there so she has something familiar, so we tried using it for the bed, too, and it worked for a little bit. Eventually she got bored with it, though, just like she does with every other sleeping spot, so it wasn't a lasting thing for us.

For our last cat I bought one of those round beds for her to curl up in. She thought it was a litterbox! So I had to throw it away. Our current cat appreciates his blanket folded up on top of a low bookcase by the window more than he would an expensive bed.
