Depressing

My mother has told me that she wants to "get rid of" her cats Minnie & Iggy because she thinks her landlord doesn't like them.
Iggy howls a bit, Minnie is quiet, & I don't know my mother's true motivation here. The cats are not poorly behaved in a serious sense, my mother is just paranoid.
I am unable to take either cat as I am in a small apt. w/ a cat who hates, & attacks, other cats.
What can I do to save these cats from euthanasia?
My mother has already been asking around for homes w/ no luck.

Oh boy, I would get in trouble for mentioning THAT in a newscast!!!!

I'm a newscaster now. But you bring up a good point, I will mention it to the announcer who doies the "pet pound".
I still don't forsee much luck.

From experience...the only way to place an adult cat is to be aggressive about it. Take "cute" pics of the cats and make pretty color posters with desciptions of each cat and post them around at grocery stores and such. If you just put a generic ad in the paper, guaranteed noone will call.

P.S. if you can't afford to make posters, take snapshots of the cats and attach the pics to hand written signs. Good luck!

P.S.S. I've NEVER placed one of my cats but I have done rescue work and placed cats for relatives

Have you tried calling nursing homes or drug treatment residences? Pitch it to them from the theraputic angle. In those cases, an established, healthy, adult cat would be a plus as compared to taking in a kitten.

Thanks everyone. I am going to try the radio route first. It's hard for me to advertise them because I don't live in Hfx where the cats are. But I will make posters if this won't work.
It's such a shame my mother's so irresponsible.

What a bloody shame

Can she ring round to vet offices to see if she can get them into an adoption program? They're prolly full-up (my own vet is), but it's definitely worth a try. As well, Bide-A-Wile would prolly take them in and find them a loving home. There is a lady, I believe in Sackville, who also rehomes - I'll try to find more info on her. Jeez, I wish I had a big house -- I would take them in a heartbeat

If you like, since I live in Halifax, I can ring round to a few places and ask for you. If you don't mind sending me more info on the cats, ie ages, colours, health info, etc., I can put the word out for you.

Thanks Banshee!!! Iggy is neutered male, brown tabby, large, a little talkative, & about 5 years old. Minnie is a little older, charcoal & white semi-longhair female, very pretty. Both are indoor cats & not sick or infested w/ fleas.

What tabby isn't talkative? My guys - especially Aoife (also brown) - never stop yowling at me for one thing or another

Is it imperative that Iggy and Minnie are rehomed together, or just preferred, or can they go to separate homes? Also, do you think they'd do well in homes with multiple (more than two) cats?

Oops, also -- are they neutered/spayed? Anybody declawed? Up to date on their shots? I'm trying to think of everything I'll be asked...

They are healthy & my Mom will get them shots if new home is found. They are 100% indoor cats, neutered Iggy) & spayed (Minnie). Separate homes are fine. ANY decent home is great for them. Thanks again.
