| Cat teeth cleaning
How many here have had their cat's teeth professionally cleaned? How old was the cat, did you have to do bloodwork before the anesthesia and how much did it cost you.
Our vet is recommending it for BB (8 year old cat who won't let us brush her teeth) but he also requires blood work pre-operatively before the anesthesia. He wants $150. What do you think?

| Is the $150 the total for the dentistry & the bloodowork? Or just the bloodwork?
I think that is pretty reasonable for the price if it's for both..
I haven't needed my cats teeth done yet.. but both my dog's have had dentistry (despite brushing them.. not enough obviously)..
Vets usually do recommend bloodwork after a certain age.. better safe then sorry.

I might be able to get him to knock $20 off for the exam since she was just examined, but I am not sure how flexible he would be. So you think that's reasonable, huh? I should probably get it done.

| That's a great price. You'd be looking at about double that at my clinic. Definatly worth the cash. Remember though, if there are extractions, it will likely cost a bit more. You can't always tell beforehand with a cat as very few of them will hold still and let you get a great look! | |

| i would totally do it! most dogs and cats need to have yearly dentist cleanings just like us.

| I'm just after paying $350 for Bruce's teeth cleaning, including pre-op bloodwork (that's for a straight cleaning with no extractions), so the $150 your vet quoted you is a bargain. I would go for it, provided he/she's experienced in it.
Incidentally, pre-op bloodwork was optional at my vet clinic in the past, but it's now mandatory, which I think is a great idea. Doing the bloodwork is imperative to ensure there are no hidden problems that may prove life-threatening during surgery.
