Carla is an unknown quantity at this point
Cat with hair loss

My cat Taffy is starting to pull her fur off of her back legs. When she's walking away you can see the bald spot is a stripe. She's got a vet appointment for Thursday, but I was wondering if any of you might know what it is. There are no bumps or scaly lesions, just one little place where she seems to have nipped herself. This is stressing me out! I'm going to get some anti-itch stuff for her just to see if that will stop her until then. Advice would be appreciated. I may have a bald cat by Thursday.

Carla, first you will have to rule out any obvious medical condition. Some conditions that may cause fur pulling are: fleas, mites, mange, ringworm, infection or allergies.

However, some cats are diagnosed with a behavioral/psychological problem similar to OCD. There are medications to treat this.

You may want to try a hairball remedy. I do not like the conventional remedies because they contain petroleum. Instead, I would try something like this.

Good luck at the vet, and keep us posted.
