| BB has a ?lesion Well, I wrote and posted this thread 2 days ago, but that was when the forum was updating so it must have gotten lost in cyberspace.
Several months ago I got BB a new collar- it was so pretty, pink and glittery and it was stretchy so it would not strangle her. I noticed she would intermittently scratch at it and most of the glitter got scratched off so I removed it. It was then I noticed she has a crusty lesion right on the neck where the collar was. I thought it was a scab and left the collar off to heal. It is still there and has not changed. It feels a bit like there is a piece of clay kitty litter stuck in her fur (but it is definitely not litter). I tried to take a picture of it today in case anyone knows what it might be. She will be going to the vet in a month for her annual check up and shots, but I am waiting for my son to come home from college as BB is technically his cat and he wants to be there when we go to the vet. I don't think there is any rush to go to the vet as it has not changed for months now. It does bother her a little bit, she pulls away when I manipulate it, but will let me touch it otherwise. Nothing else has changed with her, she is still as active as always (which never was very active), eats well and pooping and peeing just fine. Mostly I am just looking for what it might be so I can look it up online and be prepared for what the vet might recommend. If anyone has experienced anything like this please let me know what you think.
I have attached 2 photos of it:
That's my finger on top for size comparison.

| Perhaps the collar caused an irritation and you are seeing the last stages of healing. Sometimes the cats get a little too fiesty with each other and end up drawing blood. Usually I don't even notice until it gets scabbed and crusty. They look quite similar. Keep an eye out for any oozing, swelling, or funky smell that might indicate an absess. If you can, wash with soap and water (not peroxide as it may delay healing) and put some antibiotic ointment on it. |

| actually 50% apple cider vinegar and 50% water should heal it right up
Sasha had a hot spot, it was still open, red and oozy, the vet would have given her a shot of cortizone for it and it would have taken weeks if not mths for it to heal....looked it up on line, so we got it, I sprayed it on her a few times the first day, by that night it scabbed over...within the week the scab fell off, it healed up and a few weeks later all the hair has grown back on it
its amazing stuff!!! |

| Thanks for sharing, Brandy. Jason's mom uses apple cider vinegar on the horses all the time...but I never thought of using it on the other pets. |

| I'll have to remember that Brandy!
Montana recently had a hot spot.. a co-worker gave me Pulvex ( a medicated Anti-Itch spray) which worked but next time I'll try the apple cider vinegar/ water..
Anne.. I'm not sure what that is.. keep us updated though.. I'm interested now!

| I don't think its a hot spot. It is not warm, red, oozy or any of those things. And as I mentioned, she has had it for several months already. Unless I really mess with it, it doesn't seem to bother her.
Thanks for the input though!

| No but the apple cidar vinegar with water still might dry it up and heal it, its all natural, it wont hurt her at all.
its recommended that cats and dogs even drink it |

| Brandy, I just read through some of the links you posted, and while I am not sure I believe that a few drops on a cat's lips would dramatically reduce an eye infection as one story stated, I think it might be worth a try in her water and will give it a try topically after her next bath. Thanks for the suggestion. I will let you know if it makes any difference. First I have to buy some at the store
