| army's vet visit i am off to the vet now for army's nose. i thought i had opened a thread on this already, but i guess not. weird. i will tell you all about it when i get home. unfortunately, i am going to see the same vet. no time to find another one and she needs treatment.
here is a copy of the email i sent to my cat group so you know what is going on with her.... army got a bump on her nose two days ago, and i assumed it was a bite and was just going to watch it. now it has grown down the right side of her nose and down under her eye. her nostril is closed and she whistles when she breathes and sneezes lots of clear snot. the vet was gone yesterday and for the weekend. i am trying to decide if i should drive her an hour away for an emergency vet or see how it is til tuesday and go if i need to before then. she is acting fine and eating and drinking and purring and poohing and peeing fine. i am bamfoozled. thoughts? votes on a vet visit versus watch it? these are not the best, but they kind of show the swelling on her right side of her nose and down into her face.

| i am home from the vet now and army is on antibiotics. there is a sore in army's nose and she has an abcess. there has been an interesting turn in events. a new vet started there today. she is young. she as very nice and knowledgable and personable and i liked her a lot. she said that the other vet retired and last week was his last week and she bought out his half of the practice-controlling share. i asked her hwwo she felt about priorities of her patients. she said worst case to best case. i said, well, i was here saturday for my hedgehog and was made to wait for and hour and a half while she went into shock and died. she was sympathetic. she asked what she died from. i told her. she was horrified and furious. she called in the main vet tech and asked if she knew who i was and what happened this weekend. the tech said yes, that my hedgie had died. she asked why i was not seen sooner and the tech said that she told the vet about journ when we first came in, and again when it was obvious that she was going into shock, and the vet made the decision for me to wait. and said that he did not know anything about exotics really. (the other vet does, but he was not there). the new vet was very upset. she told me hat she was very much into exotics and had done work on hedgies and others-she even has a wallaby! i don't know what to think now. i really liked her and she seemed knowledgable, but how do i know that she will effect true change in the hospital? i told her that i do not have any more hedgies, but that i had gliders, and she asked me some very knowledgable questions. her knowledge seems legit. why, oh why could she not have been there on saturday?!?

| Your new vet sounds great! Hopefully she'll be able to kick some complacent butt in that office. I'm so glad that Army is going to be okay.

| That's a shame... I'm glad the new Vet seems to be more knowledgable.. I can't understand how a Vet doesn't learn even the basics about exotics.. and if they don't know how to treat the problem they should have an exotic Vet on call that can help them out..

| That old vet owes you, at the very least, an apology. I understand your frustration, though- had equally stupid vets over something as common as a guinea pig- just thankfully no fatalities because of it. You should send that vet a happy retirement card with a picture of Journey. Hope Army feels better soon. |
