We've made a decision

Jason and I applied to adopt a rejected police dog (from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP)). We definitely want a german shepherd (preferably Czech lines) and we want an adult dog. One of our friends is an RCMP and he suggested that we apply for the adoption program.

We applied in early July and received a call right before we went on vacation. Unfortunately, we were not able to see the dog and make a decision before we went away so the dog went to the next person on the list. But we are hopeful that we will get a call soon.

OH huge congrats to you! I love GSD and have owned 2. Ive been to their training program in Alberta and just the littlest thing (usually non aggression) which is good for you, lets them be adopted out away from the RCMP. The age will be perfect too! Young but not too young for what you are looking for WEEEE!
I can't wait to see your new family member!

Thank Jess! We are very excited. The training program that you saw is the one we will be getting the dog from (in Innisfail). The dog that they phoned about before was rejected for lack of aggression. We have specifically requested a pet dog (versus guard, compound, etc.) so I'm assuming they'll only phone us about the less aggressive dogs.

So instead of retirees from the program they are more or less rejected because they do not have the aggression needed for the RCMP force? That is pretty cool. I can't wait to see and hear about your adoptee either!

Exactly, Annie. They are rejected before they enter the formal training program. Most of the retirees are adopted by their handlers from my understanding.

Debbie is on a distinguished road
We had a female reject from the local constab. years ago.
She died wearing a badge though.
She ran out in front of a motor cycle and pushed a toddler to safty.
The toddler was my cousin, Alaska was killed, she was 9 years old.
She was blessing, and I too hope the call comes soon.

Well we decided that we wanted a GSD and started looking into breeders. We wanted an older dog because we did not want to deal with a puppy. The best part of the deal is that the breeding line is great, hips are X-rayed, and the dogs are in great physical health. They still have a fairly hefty (but fair) price attached but it's definitely worth everything.

And...good news!! We got another call today! I can't make it out to the facility until Friday though! The constable said that they always phone three potential buyers and it's first come, first served. So, he said it is possible that she might be gone by Friday. We'll be in contact this week and hopefully she'll still be looking for a home on Friday.
