Too bad this breeder is no longer breeding. We need more breeders like him in the world. Look at the determination on the dog's faces when they are weight pulling. Stunning!!
Those are stunning!
I went to a different site, a kennel they had a link to, and I thought some of the dogs were really skinny, and one had a thick collar on, usually indicating a fighting dog.
Here is what I mean: http://www.matrixkennels.com/reloaded/sati.htm
Scroll down a bit and you can see all the ribs in this dog...
the one with the ribs sticking out is a puppy, and looks like in that awkward gangly puppy stage, and they often look just not right at that stage lol..not to mention clumsy as all get out!
as for the older one, i thought pits had a bit more in the belly area but i could be wrong, the rest of it looks ok...the thick collar i think can just be a matter of personal preference
Natalie, believe it or not, the Pit you saw is what is called "conditioned". I can post a picture of a Pit that is in the conditioning phase and you would swear the dog is too skinny but it isn't. Pits are supposed to be around 45 to 50 pounds and very lean. I highly doubt that dog is being used for fighting. Matrix Kennels takes the breed very seriously and wouldn't condone such a thing nor post pictures if he had any reason to believe his dogs were being used for fighting.
If anyone is interested, here is a great thread that has information on APBT's and conditioning. If you go through each page you will find more pictures. Pit bull forum
I agree with Denise. Those dogs look to be in great shape.
The thick collars is not a "sign of fighting dogs". I've seen many pet people who use the thicker collars on their pits.. heck, I have a thick collar on my greyhound- and she isn't a fighter! lol
Matrix Kennels does have some awesome dogs. These are the people we do need breeding .
