Smells like dog

The shelter gave Pitch a bath before we brought him home Friday but he still has that dog smell. The shelter didn't bathe him the way I would bathe him. Do you think it would be okay if I gave him another bath this weekend? His skin is dry so I would get a moisturizing and mild shampoo.

Another thing, he HATES water so getting him in the bathtub should be fun.

Would it be okay to use a mild baby shampoo?

Sophie, I know!! I have no idea how we are going to get him in the tub. If he gets his front paws in the tub, Dave can lift his lower end in the tub.

BTW, after every walk, Dave and I clean Pitch's paws with baby wipes.

ya know, when we got our new kirby, the salesman actually used this as part of his pitch! one of the attatchments has like little rubber "fingers" that are flexible, and he said that you can slowly get your dog adjusted to the vacuum and the massage..he said his dog actually comes running when he runs his vacuum, thinking he'll get a massage!

I would only use a dog shampoo. Human ones, even baby ones can be too drying to a dogs skin. It'll strip too much of his natural oils. You can get dog shampoos for dry skin to help him. Normally I wouldn't recomend re-bathing so soon, but it should be okay if you use a moisturizing shampoo.

I would use an oatmeal dog shampoo and just a hint, if he hates water, fill up the tub first and shut the water off. The sound of running water might make him even crazier. Then use a pitcher or something to slowly pour the water over the areas you want to suds.

Thanks for all the tips. I will be buying an oatmeal based shampoo tomorrow at Petsfart.

Annie, I wasn't planning on having the water run for the same reason you said. He will live through it.
