Senior Dog Food

I think that my dog needs to be put on some senior dog food. With his thyroid problem and his advanced age, I think it would of benefit to his health if we went with something that had less protein. Any suggestions? A lot of the brands that I looked into only make an "All life stages" food...which obviously doesn't help me much. CSFTDLS has a senior formula I think, but I can't get it here yet.

I think Nutro makes a senior formula? I can't think of many off the top of my head, maybe Royal Canin also makes a senior formula. I'll see what I can find.

I saw the Nutro one. I will probably go with that unless I can find something better. He's on Nutro right now and doing fine but I thought I would take this opportunity to upgrade him.

Flint River Ranch has a great oven baked kibble for seniors but unfortunately they don't ship to Canada

Do you think that a Lite food would be comparable to a senior food?

Thanks for the help so far CJ.

It seems for senior foods they reduce the protein and fat and add supplements like glucosamine. Does the lite food add supplements like that? If you are supplementing on your own then a lite food might be similar to a senior food.

Yes, some lite foods add glucosamine.
