| new puppy is hiccupping all the time
ok, i know it sounds kind of funny but, my girlfriend and i got a new puppy for francie to ahve as a playmate. she is a dauchsund and we got her at about 5and a half weeks of age. we have had her a few weeks and she hiccupps all the time! i used to raise schnauzers and i never had this problem. out of all the litters we raised, not once did we ever have a chronic hiccer-upperer....any one have any ideas what is causing this?
mel, my girl, is a worry wart, and she is constantly freaking out over it.

| She's a cutie!
My dog (pug/boston terrier) will get the hiccups after eating her food too fast. Maybe this is why your dog has the problem? Maybe you could feed her smaller meals, more frequently.

| i dont have any advice or suggestons to why shes doing it but my god she is some cute.......congrats on the new puppy,,,I think all of the hiccuping would bother me to,,lol | |

| My does the same when he eats too fast. I usually rub his belly gently and they go away.  Does the puppy seem to be uncomfortable? | |

| My puppy used to do that too. I was not sure what it was and there were times she looked very uncomfortable. I think it might have been because she plays with our older dog who has long hair and i know she swallows it alot. It went away though. | |

| I just thought of something that may help. Can you raise her bowl up some? When dogs eat from a bowl on the ground, they often suck/gulp the food to keep it from falling out of their mouth. That could definitely cause hiccups.  It is also better for their joints to have the bowl raised some. Try splitting the distance between the floor and your puppies snout (when standing up with the head up). It may only be a few inches but it could make a difference.  | |

| suzoo, good point...
candycane....ppp is shorter than the bowl. however she gets them all the time. she can be asleep in my arms and have them for 10 minutes. they'll go away, and come back 30 or 40 minutes later ofr another 15 minutes when she has done nothing but stretch or lick me or whatever. she is a hiccupp machine! lol
she is going to the vet tomorrow, but i was hoping others had ideas. | |
