My Puppymill Dog

My oldest mini dachshund, I just realized came from a puppymill. I never would have realized it if I hadn't seen the site PRISONERS OF GREED.

The woman I bought my dog from kept 7+ dogs in one small indoor/outdoor cage/kennel supported by wooden legs so the poo would fall from the cage
of course she had many cages lining 2 sides of a building with only one hallway in the building. on top of that she has large breeds in kind of a large boxlike kennel with only a metal grate on top of it for air(I forgot about that in another post)
She breeds like 8 different breeds-Italian greyhounds is one and they are kept in the same conditions her doxies are. others she breeds are Irish Terriers, Bernese Mountain Dogs, Great Pyrenees, Briards, Schipperkes....

she sells to brokers
her dogs don't get out of their cages
she feeds science diet
they never get any in the house time with the family
there is only one dog allowed in the house-a very old black lab

The dog I bought from her is a black and tan longhaired double dapple.....
and she has Epilepsy due to the miller breeding a dog who carried it, just because(I beleive) She didn't want to stop breeding the parents because the father is a show dog, and the mother is supposedly a good quality as well.
I will be getting this girl spayed if our vet says so-he said dogs with epilepsy can react badly to the medicine used for the procedure.

So I guess I learned the hard way about puppy mills-this is a reason to avoid puppy mill puppies. This breeder was only worried about making a buck and so my doggie friend and I now have to be the ones to pay the price.

Thanks for sharing your experience, doxielover. Lavander was a petshop puppy, which means she's probably from a puppymill as well. If I knew then what I know now, I would have never gotten her from the petshop. Currently I patronise petshops that do not sell puppies.

It is good that she is in a better place, but at the same time, you (unknowingly) supported a puppy mill.

You bring up a great point, doxie. Just because you aren't buying from the pet store does not mean that you aren't supporting a puppy mill.

I am happy I have her-but I feel sorry for the dogs still in her possession.
One of the first signs I think should have tipped me off was that she only wanted $250 for a longhair black and tan double dapple, which goes for considerably more at most other breeders.

And I'm guessing that the dogs weren't registered?
