Question hyper jumping pup...

how do you teach a 6-1/2 month hyper puppy to not jump on people when she first sees them??? she seems to do it when seeing them at first (and not just for the first time, either...just for not seeing them for a few minutes, too...) and when she's bored...if you sit down by her, she also will sit on you but sort of jump at you at first...she's in an obedience class for 5 more classes (6 total), but she is the least well-behaved in the class...just a little frustrating at times...any suggestions???

You may want to repeat obedience if it's not taking and make sure to work with her plenty outside of class if you aren't already.

We had issues with jumping up on people with our dogs when they were young too. There may be a better way, but we just turned our back on them and refused to visit or play until they were calm and sitting. Of course this requires them to know sit and to do it. It took time, but it worked. Now when they get excited over someone or something we are holding (food!!!), they sit and wait, panting, tail wagging, and sometimes paws dancing.

Guests that aren't frequent visitors aren't going to know the 'rules' about jumping up so I would hold the dog until the guests are informed or not allow the dog access to the guests if they're not really dog people anyway and aren't interested in helping in training.

that does help...and i actually have been trying those exact things...she just whimpers and lays/sits down calmly, panting, but when i come over to her, she'll be ok for a few minutes but then it's back to jumping again...my brother and dad play with her a lot while i'm at school and she's fine for a 1/2 hour or so, but then she starts up with her jumping again...and when she jumps, her mouth is open - sometimes barking...barking is the worst when she's jumping on you...then she accidentally bites you when her bark is done and she goes to close her mouth...no blood shed with her little nibbles, just a sharp instant pain that quickly goes away in 30 seconds tops...she's teething still, so that's a hard thing to fix, too, is the nibbling...
