have you ever been scammed when buying a pup?

i was wondering if when you send a deposit for a purebred puppy to a breeder and you send a full payment via paypal if you have ever been taken, like not ever recieving the puppy or the breeder claims she put the puppy on the plane and it got lost or stolen and you would have to pay for a replacement puppy i just have this fear when looking for a reputble breeder out of my state

I have never had this happen to me. I have always gone to the breeders home to meet the dogs and inspect the home.

If and when you find someone, ask for references to other people who have bought puppies from the breeder. This doesn't guarantee that everything will go smoothly, but it does help. If they refuse then I would look elsewhere.

I personally would be hesitant buying a dog without seeing or meeting the breeder or the dog. I find it hard to believe that a good dog breeder would sell an animal to an owner sight unseen. You are better off waiting for a local breeder or rescuing. What happens if the dog doesn't meet you needs? Are you just going to ship it back? It does not seem fair to the animal.
