Any Suggestions- Trying To Help A Dog

Ok,

A live-in working student at the barn came here over the summer. She brought 2 dogs with her. The one, Leroy, a coon hound mix, is an awsome dog. The sweetest dog I've ever seen. But he started chewing up things so now, the barn manager says that he must stay either tied up or in a kennel at all times. I feel so bad for him- he's goin back to Alabama in November, but it's no life for a dog- he whines, and cries, and is left outside so. I want to help him- I want to bring him to my house until she can find a home for him... but I need some help. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to convince my parents to let me do this? I've offered to pay for his vet bills/kennel expences ect...

She loves animals, but she can't have him chewing up all of her kids toys- because she doesn't have the money to replace them. I almost cry when I see him. He's a real smart dog- and I'm sure he could learn but I need help as to how to get my parents to let me bring him home.

Ok, I'm not a dog expert, but how about keeping the kid's toys out of the dog's reach? Alright, I'm not a kid person either!!! Sounds to me like the dog is either stressed from the change or bored, or both. How about making sure he knows that he has a job to do - there must be something that you can show him to do that is his job while he is with you?

The thing is though, we have chores to do, so when he's with us, we can't watch him- and we don't want to tie him up b/c he tends to bark at the horses on the cross ties.

Does he have toys of his own he can wreck? Like a big rope toy? Or Nylabones?

I must say it sure sounds like he is bored. If there is anyway to keep the kids toys and other things out of his reach and supply him with plenty of toys of his own, he might be okay.
It is all about training, and if he thinks what he is doing is okay, he will continue to do it, and sadly to keep him tied up or in a kennel isn't going to help, because he will most likely continue to be distructive to gain the attention

Any dog that receives the proper care and training can overcome a destructive type behavior.
I have surely gone through my share of things being destroyed from all my years of foster and rescue work, but I will admit I have never fostered a dog that couldn't be trained properly and become adoptable

I have no advice for you to get your parents to let you foster him, but I do wish you all the luck.
I hope it works out for you all in the end

Thanks, I went there today and didnt' see him... don't know what's up although I wasn't around the house long enough to know if he's still there or what... I guess I'll find out on Friday, but I'll look at the shelter list also because it's only 5 mins away so there is a possibility that he may have been taken there.
