hey there! i owned a ferret a very long time ago. his name was monty and he was awesome. monty tended to get pretty active just as i was trying to go to sleep every night, and he'd do all kinds of things to try to keep me up, his favorite was getting under the covers and biting my toes.
dogs and cats are great, with cats needing less attention. If you like to go out for the night or want the ability to spend the weekend somewhere on a whim I'd go with a kitteh.
