Question What are the common ailments and signs of ill health for lizards

What advice can you give to new owners of lizards as to the common health problems that they might experience?

Are there signs or symptoms that should be watched for?

Are such illnesses easy to treat?

MBD is common and very serious. It mainly targets desert reptiles since they process their calcium from the suns uvs, being in the desert. And when they are domesticized and taken out of their natural habitats, their new homes are not going to be directly under a desert sun so to replace this/mimick this they require uvb lighting. Proper uvb will imitate the amount they normally would get. There are many good lights out there which I have tried. These include zoomeds repti suns, mega rays, and zilla desert 50 series lights. More recently zilla came out with new versions of these bulbs and I like them because they have the uv index on the box, which explains a lot. Some signs of mbd include swollen or deformed limbs, tremors, jerking, weakness, lethargy, lack of eating. So if anyone sees these things. I suggest you 1) look at your set up but 2) go to the vet!

I agree that is one the biggest along with impaction. Well the most seen and heard of anyway. I remember when my friends beardie was showing mbd symptoms. It was scary. Most people don't realize that either, that they are being taken, metaphorically, from their natural homes.
All those lights are really good. My cousin has the new zillas and said they're great and make the heps he has them on very active. I'm probably going to get some now I'm curious.
