Question What do hedgehogs eat & how often should they be fed

What is the normal diet for hedgehogs?

Is there anything that you must avoid?

avoid nuts and seeds, and raisins..... they can be deadly.

Most owners use a mix of high-quality cat foods. Most commercial "hedgehog" foods aren't that great at all. Except spike's delight. Here is the mix (all dry cat food) that i use for Jinx:

Blue buffalo spa select Lite
chicken soup for the cat lover's soul Lite
wellness healthy weight
Solid gold katz-flocken

I feed her 2 Tablespoons of food each morning, and just leave her to free-feed. Though for hedgies with weight problems, you may have to limit the duration of time that the food is left in their cage.

For treats most will eat mealworms, fruits and cooked veggies. Also, you can feed them lean, cooked meats like hamburger, salmon, and chicken. Even baby food is okay.
