Blood in Urine (Guinea Pig)

Her exotic vet is not open until tomorrow but I discovered a little blood in Seaside's urine, making it pinkish, & I am wondering if it is menstrual blood or what? The vet decalred her 100% healthy 2 weeks ago & she is acting in all other respects like a normal healthy gp. Please let me know what you think, the so-called Emergency vet here is clueless about rodents (thought Cub's anus was her vagina when we went there last.... ). THANKS.

Cinnamon will become famous soon enough
I can't help you, Neuro, but I'm moving this out of the archives so it will get some more attention.

If it is not menstrual blood I can almost guarantee it is a bladder or urinary infection. I would keep an eye on her and if you see it again, take her into her regular vet tomorrow. Good luck.

Hmmm, I've had bladder infections myself & Cub had either a bladder or uterine infection a year & a half ago, & it is EXCRUCIATING. Cub was sufferring terribly. The thing is, Seaside is acting sooo normal, she's eating hay right now as a matter of fact. I will definitely call Dr Benoit in the morning but I have a feeling this isn't a bladder or ut infection.

I guess it's different for every animal. In the early stages for my cat Syd (just blood and a little bit of straining) she showed no signs unless you actually watched her in the litter box. I hope it's something else. Let us know what the vet says.

Neuro
GP's do NOT have menstral symtoms. This is a Urinary Tract Infections. SO DEFFINTLY get her in righ tnow as they can turn deadly. I had a gp before that had this very same thing. Is she squealing at all when she pees. Its usually advised you take all bedding out of the cage and use white paper towels till the infections cleared up with antibotics. ALso be careful as some antibotics are deadly to gp's.

yup either a UTI(urinary tract infection OR just a type of food she ate............................lucy my little RABBIT(lisa says she is too big to be refered to as a bunny LOL) has red pee at times.............depends on what she eats................so either she needs septra antibiotics or she needs a change in diet

The red pee hasn't recurred since I last posted in this thread, so I am thinking that it is something she ate. BUT we will be going to the vet this week when I am in Hfx.

Neuro its great you going to take her in just to be safe. A good way to check is to seperate her for the day put her in a smaller cage with just paper towels on the bottom of the cage, makes it easier to see the color of there urine. Thinking good thoughts for her.
