Nesting finches

Hi there - I have a pair of finches that are building a really fantastic nest and am wondering what I should expect as far as them laying eggs. They're nest has been complete for a couple of weeks, though they spend a lot of time making little changes to it - which is super cute to watch

Does anyone know if they'll really lay eggs or if they're just nesting for the sake of nesting?

Thanks!
Kasey

We had finches growing up and they would lay eggs and then kill all the babies.
I'm no help.

That's terrible! I really hope they don't eat the babies - ack!

Still no eggs, but they've been sleeping in the nest, so I'm hoping that she'll lay some soon

Thanks! I took a couple of pictures of them sitting in the nest. They're super cute:

finchies!

They've built a little lip around the inside with string and stuff, so even when they're not in there I can't see in enough to tell if there are eggs. They're spending a lot more time in there, though, so I'm hoping that means there are eggs I'll keep you guys posted!

I don't know anything about nesting finches but I will say they are really cute. Let's hope these aren't the cannibal finches of Sirk's (hopefully otherwise healthy) childhood.

No eggs yet! They keep doing 'housekeeping' on the nest - moving sticks around and such, but no eggs! They're hilarious to watch - the male does most of the work, and the female tends to take out whatever string or sticks she doesn't like and throws them on the floor of the cage I guess regardless of whether they have eggs or not, they're sure adorable in that nest!
