Cat virus?

My (indoor) cat has been sneezing up a storm for the past few days, though today was noticeably better. I can't tell if it's hairballs (there's a little dry hacking with the sneezes) or a cat virus. He doesn't have any nasal discharge. We've all been sick with a human flu, wondering if the cat has a kitty one. I'm going to buy him some hairball remover when I go to the store tomorrow, and see if that doesn't help. Any ideas? I've never had a cat get a cold before.

Looks like there were no ideas... but all is well! Marley seems to have given up his sneezing fits, so I'm guessing it was just a little kitty virus. Now if I could just shake my human virus, all would be back to normal!

Well I'm glad it all got taken care of! It does just sound like he had a little cold....I've had cats get them before, but now that I think about it, I guess it does seem rather rare for them to get sick like that. He may have also gotten into something he shouldn't have (like a dusty area) and it took him a few days to get it out of his system.

I have seen my cats sneeze on occasion, which I always found to be somewhat unsettling personally.

Cats can get a cold though, and it's possible that's what set the sneezing off.

As long as he's alright now, you should try not to worry too much about it.

Even if he is an indoor cat, you could possibly have brought something home to him. Do you fuss other cats when you are out and about? I know I am sucker for a pretty furry face!

Any how I am glad he is better now.

Our newest little kitty sneezes a good deal too, and even though she has been checked out when we adopted her and by a vet, she is all good to go. I just find it funny since I have sinus issues anyways and now I have a cat to match with me on the sneezes and stuffy nose!

Aw, poor thing, Cream! We used to have a cat with a deviated septum, always breathed through her mouth. She was a funny thing.

Marley was sick when we got him (from a rescue mission), but has been well since then up to this virus. I wonder if his previous illness makes him more susceptible.

Very Happy allergies?

It could also be allergies as I noticed that the original post was in Feb. A combination of heating and an accumulation of dust during the winter months causing your cat some allergies.

Cats and dogs do also get allergies.. we have a dog with such bad allergies theres only one type of food he can actually eat withough getting nasty skin rashes, even nastier ear infections and sneezing fits.. we cant give him anything but IAMS KO (Kangaroo and Oats) food and for snacks he can only eat (I forget the name right now but they are 100% natural with no animal meat, fat or artificial flavors or colors.) in addition, he gets one huge omega acid gel cap and two Zyrtec tablets with breakfast every morning. needless to say, its quite expensive to feed him but even more for all the meds he'll need to help him when his allergies get really bad. Ahhh the things we do because we love our pets.
