I have been to another forum and one of the topics really intrigued me. One of the members said there that bones are not good as food for dogs, which I really disagreed.
Her argument is that bones have the smell and taste of the meat and that is what the dogs love, not the bone itself. My reason why dogs love bones is that it is their toy and it makes their teeth strong by chewing on it.
What is opinion about this. I would like to know some more reasons whether bones are good or not for dogs.
My biggest fears with bones is that they splinter. So if that chunks can splinter off and be ingested, which could then injure their insides....and larger doges are more likely to swallow some pieces whole (like giving a lab chicken bones would be disastrous) That's slightly besides the points that were brought up, but it's still one of the reasons why I'd rather give store bought "bones" if I want them to have something to chew on, keep their teetch clean, etc.
Larger beef bones are the best ones as they don't splinter easily. I get these right at the meat counter of my supermarket. It is the taste of the meat that the dog likes but why would that be a problem? It keeps the dog happy and helps keep their teeth clean and strong. Never, ever, ever give a dog poultry bones and many pork bones splinter easily, too.
