Question How do you litter train your kitten

Having your kitten have 'accidents' all over the floor is something every kitten owner dreads.

How do you go about training your kitten to use the litter tray?

What age should the training begin?

Using a litter box is instinctive to cats.. even kittens.
When kittens have 'accidents', it is more the owners fault than the kitten. You've given the kitten too much freedom. Letting a small kitten loose in a whole house & expecting it to find his litter box is too much to ask. It's not that they won't use it, it's that they forget where it is.
Keeping the kitten in a small area (bathroom, dog crate, large rabbit cage etc) after meals, while you're sleeping & can't monitor the litterbox use.. will guarantee they use it.. when the cat is reliably using the LB then gradually give him more & more freedom.
Put the litterbox where the kitten will be able to get to it easily.. if you have a 2 storey house, putting the LB in the basement is just wrong. In that case I'd recommend a box for each level of the house.
