What to do? (Hamster ?)

Ok, I just split up my two new hamsters....and I don't think they like it. Ben seems ok, but Bill seems pretty freaked out. Do you think it's just being in a new cage? Or do you think he might miss Ben? I don't know if I should put them back together and see what happens....split them up if they start fighting, but leave them together if they don't. Any advice?

I would keep them seperate. I'm sure he's distraught because it's new to him to be alone. But since I'm the one who gave you the initial advice, maybe someone else should share their thoughts

It's hard to say. Things could go wrong so quickly. If it was me, I wouldn't risk it.

Christy is an unknown quantity at this point
Several years ago I had hamsters. I bought two at a pestore was told they were brothers they should be caged together (this was before I had internet acess) I said okay GREAT bought one cage all went well for several months. I got up one morning to one of my hamsters dead and the other on the verge of dying. They had fought to the point of killing each other. This was AFTER months of them getting along GREAT and NO Spats. I learned the hard way hamsters should be kept seperate.

Im sure there just adjusting to being alone.

Ok, I've kept them seperated, but I've put Bill in the new cage and left Ben in the old one. Bill seems a bit braver, and so far things are going well. The cages are side by side so they can still see each other.

A few days ago I bought two little ceramic flowerpots. I'm going to paint their names on them, and then they'll REALLY be Bill and Ben the Flowerpot Men! ^_^

Christy, I'm so sorry about what happened to your hamsters. That's so sad

Yeah they're doing much better already. I think they really like not having to share a wheel! Before they were both trying to use one wheel at the same time (going in opposite directions too!), but now they each have a wheel. Right now they're both sleeping. I checked on them a few times over night and they seemed to be doing ok. Mostly they were running in the wheels. They're such cuties!
