| Dwarf hamsters Does anyone here own any dwarf hamsters? I was buying a few things in the pet store yesterday, and although I've never had the desire to own a hamster, this very cute little baby dwarf hamster caught my eye. He was so cute ... and very hyperactive. He was jumping, leaping, digging, - very active.
I was just wondering how big dwarf hamsters would get ? |

| I have Roborovski dwarfs...I had 2 until a couple of days ago when I found that one had died during the night...they are very active in the evening and ALL night...they are so cute...if you decide to you should get 2 instead of just 1 cause they prefer to live in pairs, unlike regular hamsters. I keep them in an aquarium with a wire lid cause they escaped from the hamster cage the first night I had them...you can see a picture of them in my Gallery (M&M)

| awww Sue I'm sorry you lost one of your dwarfs. Lisa I've been longing to have dwarf hamsters for years. they are really fun and acive creatures. And unlike their syrian cousins, they are very sociable with other hammies! They don't get very big though. Maybe the size of a golf ball??? Like Sue said, you are best to keep them in an aquarium with a lid since they can escape fro anything else.

| Tim isn't going for it here either Candice
I told him we are going to end up with 4 chinnies, 4 dwarf hammies and a cocker spaniel and all he said was: "uhhhh no we're not". I'm sure he meant we'll have more than that

| Pam I think the Russina dwarf is less social than the roborovski dwarfs by nature. Also I'd imagine it depends on the hammie's personality as well

| Yeah..those Russians are mean! LOL
My Robo's are pretty friendly..they've never bitten me! I have been bitten many times by Syrians though...probably because I keep rescuing the biters from the Shelter that have had no handling before they came in and are scared of people...that's how I got Speedy (she was destined to be euthanized for biting)...you should see her now, she's very friendly and loves to be handled...she just needed time and patience (I have alot of that)
