We have a two year old boxer/italian greyhound mix and everytime we leave her in her cage she pees and or poops. She doesnt have accidents anywhere else in the house just in her cage. We make sure she pees and poops before we put her in it and we could leave for 10 mins and when we come back there is a mess in there 99% of the time. We punish her and she knows shes done wrong as soon as she sees us but she continues you do it! We think she has spearation anxiety but what can we do to fix it?!?!

Aww that's awful. I'm sure there a few different opinions about what you should do.

What else is in her crate with her? Can you put a hot water bottle or a 1/2 gallon or 2 liter bottle of warm water in there that is wrapped up in something one of you has recently worn (like a tshirt)?

The other thing I may try would be getting a Kong and putting some peanut butter in it. If you put her in the crate with the kong and just leave for five minutes and then come back and let her out maybe she will have been sufficiently distracted by the kong. And then the next day try 10 minutes and keep adding to it.

It's awful when a pet is anxiety ridden because we can't communicate to them that "Yes, of course we're coming back!"

Good luck and keep us updated.
